The Famous Grouse is a brand of blended Scotch whisky produced by The Edrington Group in Scotland. It was first produced by Matthew Gloag & Son in 1896. The single malt whiskies used in The Famous Grouse blend include the Edrington-owned Highland Park and The Macallan.

Pewter has been used for thousands of years to make decorative and useful objects. It originated in the Near East during the Bronze Age.

Early uses

The earliest known pewter was found in an Egyptian tomb around 1450 BC.

The Romans used pewter for seals of office and other small devices.

In medieval times, pewter was used extensively in Europe, especially in Britain.

Composition

Pewter is an alloy of tin and other metals, such as antimony, bismuth, copper, and lead.

Fine pewter contains 90–95% tin, while lay metal contains more lead.

Production

The Worshipful Company of Pewterers was established in London in 1348 to control the quality of pewter.

King Edward IV granted the company a Royal Charter in 1473, giving them the right to control pewter production in England.

Decline in use

Pewter's popularity declined in the 18th century as cheaper alternatives like pottery, glass, and tinplate became available.

Today, pewter is mainly used for decorative or specialty items.
