Kodak's history is marked by innovation, starting with George Eastman's invention of roll film and the first simple camera, transforming photography from a complex process to a mass-accessible hobby, and later evolving into a dominant force in both photography and motion picture film.

Here's a more detailed look at Kodak's history:

Early Years and the Rise of Kodak:

1879: George Eastman, a young hobbyist photographer, invented an emulsion-coating machine for mass production of dry plates and got a patent on it in England.

1880: Eastman perfected the method of making photographic dry plates.

1881: Eastman and Henry A. Strong formed the Eastman Dry Plate Company in Rochester, New York.

1884: Eastman and Strong transformed their partnership to a corporation.

1888: George Eastman introduced the Kodak camera, the first camera that was simple and portable enough to be used by large numbers of amateur photographers, with the slogan "You press the button, we do the rest".

1889: Eastman introduced the first commercial transparent roll film, enabling Thomas Edison to develop the first motion picture camera.

1892: The company was renamed Eastman Kodak Company.

1900: The Kodak Brownie camera brought photography within financial reach of consumers, further popularizing photography.

1908: Eastman negotiated for Kodak to be the sole supplier of film for the emerging motion picture industry.

1912: Kodak established the Kodak Research Laboratories.
