William Crawford & Sons was a Scottish biscuit company that began in 1813 as a small bakery in Leith, Edinburgh. The company grew to become one of the largest biscuit manufacturers in Britain.

William Crawford started the company in 1813 in a public house on The Shore in Leith, Scotland

The company started out baking ship's biscuits

Growth

In 1817, Robert Mathie acquired the bakery

In 1856, William Crawford bought the bakery from Mathie

The company built large factories in Leith and Liverpool

Acquisition by United Biscuits

In 1960, United Biscuits acquired William Crawford & Sons

Crawford's biscuits are now a brand within the United Biscuits portfolio
